Job Description

Barnet’s Product Development team is looking for someone to support the Internal Barnet Branded Development program through ideation, research, design, and creativity in order to achieve raw material development goals. The ideal candidate will utilize knowledge and experience from raw material, formulation background in order to aid in the conceptualization of new innovative raw materials and see the R&D process from formulation creation through manufacturing launch. This individual will work in a team-oriented environment with strong collaboration with the product development team. This candidate will have strong personal/communication skills, as this role will interact with several internal departments and various external vendors.

Responsibilities

  • Independently research potential new ingredients [including outside the industry] and literature that would fit into the company’s product portfolio whitespaces
  • Aid in creative idea generation, raw material sourcing, development, and scale-up of new Barnet Brand products
  • Develop a ratio of complex raw materials
  • Run some market research on new potential ingredients and technologies within and outside the industry, use experimental design, data analysis
  • Learn, understand the product development process and what it takes to progress from idea to launch
  • Work to design and execute multidimensional and staged experiments
  • Understand and adhere to the timeline
  • Prepare timely reports and provide updates on project goals
  • Understand the competitive and industry playing field
  • Prepare and deliver technical presentations on independent research projects
  • Manage several projects concurrently
  • Work cross-functionally with internal teams and external vendors
  • Formulate and ensure each raw material is globally compliant by reviewing with regulatory team
  • Be able to identify key benchmarks
  • Identify testing labs, equipment to support new development
  • Review test protocols and final reports and summarize key findings
  • Identify potential partnership with suppliers
  • Understands the timings and ensures deadlines are met for every project
  • Create Proof of Concept for all projects
  • Creatively, develop and prepare demos/technical methodologies and out of box thinking to illustrate performance of products for marketing literature and sales tools
  • Participate in the transfer of technology from laboratory to production and interfacing with production
    • Create Pilot procedures and Tentative specifications
    • Following the approval process for Pilot batches in a timely manner
    • Work with Lab Tech to set up/monitor Pilot Batches for Stability
    • Communicate with potential raw material partners and/or contract manufacturers
  • Performs technical assessment of new, innovative raw materials and for solutions to technical problems
  • Maintain an organized file system
  • Maintain an organized list of new product ideas
  • Provide clear direction and training to lab technician
  • Driven self-starter able to handle challenging technical/business needs and opportunities as well as excellent teamwork skills
  • Maintain a laboratory notebook (hardcopy and electronic)
  • Work independently with limited guidance
  • Adhere to all safety guidelines
  • Proficient in patents
  • Create and execute test methods to evaluate the efficacy of new Barnet branded products
  • Source alternative suppliers for components of existing materials when necessary.

Qualifications

  • BS in chemistry or related science with 3+ years’ experience of emulsion formulating; developing raw materials, process engineering, and manufacturing capabilities
  • Possess good analytical problem-solving skills to make timely and accurate decisions
  • Proven ability to outperform project timelines within competitive industry
  • Some experience in Industrial Scale Up
  • Proficiency with operating the following instrumentation: viscometer, pH meter, homogenizer, centrifuge, and microscope; rheometer (a plus)
  • Expertise with Microsoft Office, Word, PowerPoint, and Excel
  • Driven, detail oriented with excellent oral and written communication skills
  • Creative problem solver
  • Self-starter
  • Adept in building key relationships with external vendors
  • Can present (formal and informal)
  • Some travel required
